The magic of piano is at your fingertips!
Anyone can be a musician with the right instructor
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always been captivated by it's incredible power to convey emotions and ideas without words. As I got older, I also developed a deep appreciation for the learning process- each step along the way to achieving a goal- which translated naturally into a passion for teaching.
If you're considering piano lessons, there are many factors to weigh, including whether to enroll at a large school or at a home studio, the personality and qualifications of the instructor, and make-up lesson policies. My studio has a number of advantages over a large school. At my studio, your lesson won't be in a small, drab room with an upright piano. I have carefully crafted my studio space to be warm, inviting and spacious, and conduct all lessons on my beautifully maintained grand piano. At a larger school, you may be frequently reassigned to a new instructors that are only teaching as a side-gig . To me, teaching piano is more than a job- it's the best part of my day! I am highly qualified to teach piano and I genuinely enjoy what I do. I have earned a master's degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and am an active member of multiple local, state, and national organizations for music educators.
As a teacher, I am dedicated to both the personal and musical growth of every student as an individual. I aim to teach music reading, ergonomic technique, and active listening as a means for students to find the joy in learning a new skill and develop a new appreciation for beauty in the world around them.

Testimonials
Emily is a wonderful instructor. My daughter is so excited to go to her class & comes home ready to practice all of the new things she learned... I would highly recommend Emily to anyone who wants their child to learn piano. Emily taught my son Jonathan and I piano lessons, and words can’t describe how wonderful she was as our piano teacher...My 7-year-old had zero piano background or knew nothing about piano when he started with Emily. He’s now showing off to his cousins and grandparents on what he learned. |
Our 4 year old son has been taking piano lessons with Ms. Emily for about a month now, and we are beyond thrilled with the instruction she is providing... She has his lesson plans well prepared ahead of time to maximize our time in the studio with her, and every lesson is different to help keep him interested. He loves his piano lessons and looks forward to going each week. I would highly recommend Ms. Emily! Our family looks forward to each upcoming piano lesson. Ms. Katynski is very skilled at communicating with our four year old and making learning fun. |
My PhilosophyAs a young child, I remember being dragged to my weekly piano lesson, barely understanding what my teacher said during the lesson, and feeling hopelessly confused while practicing at home. I later rediscovered piano in my teens and worked tirelessly to develop my technique, focus, historical knowledge and creative expression. I now find myself having come full circle in a way, and in a position where I can cultivate the same magic that brought me back to the piano.
I believe in a very clear, practical approach to the piano, tailored to suit the needs of each individual. From the very first lesson, students will experience success with systematic practicing methods with clear goals, both of which develop a sense of ownership. My goal is to cultivate motivation, artistry, and responsibility to the highest level of which each student is capable. This system looks slightly different for each student, depending on their age, personality, and learning style. Children under five can expect to develop a tonal and rhythmic vocabulary through song and play, motor skills through basic pieces, social skills through ensemble work, and creativity through improvisation. Elementary aged children can expect to work through carefully sequenced method books, explore a wide variety of repertoire, refine basic techniques and gestures, and develop a functional understanding of music theory. Older children and teens will increase their technical facility at the piano and dive into more advanced repertoire. All students will share their music in recitals, participate in theory exams, and have additional performance and creative opportunities through local organizations. I love to teach because no two students are the same, and I can continually work to improve my teaching through professional development and self-reflection. I have been guided by a desire for lifelong learning, and I hope to share this love of learning and enthusiasm for music with everyone.
